Peridot was sometimes called the “evening’s emerald” when it was first discovered in Egypt as early back as 1500 B.C. While nearly all gemstones are formed within the Earth's crust, Peridot is actually formed within the Earth's mantle. The only other gemstones known to us to be formed there are Diamonds. Known as the stone of compassion, Peridot has also been associated with prosperity and good fortune.
